Campfire Cinnamon Rolls

Toasty, warm cinnamon rolls are an especially delicious treat when cooked over a campfire!
  1. The most convenient rolls to take camping are the fresh ones from the supermarket dairy case.
  2. Wrap these or your other favorite cinnamon rolls around sticks that are 1/2-to 1-inch thick in diameter.
  3. Hold the stick over the hot coals and rotate the rolls until they seem warm and gooey—perfect for a chilly-morning breakfast! Also a great treat at night, instead of roasted marshmallows!

Want to make your own cinnamon rolls from scratch?!

While biscuits, croissants, and a number of other breads will cook well using this method, you can also be adventurous and make your own dough with this standard camping recipe:

3 cups flour
1 tbsp baking powder
2 tbsp oil or butter
2/3-cup warm water
1 tsp salt

Mix together all of the above ingredients except for the water and salt. Dissolve the salt separately into the water. Slowly add this salt-water mixture to the other ingredients until the dough just begins to get sticky. Make sure not to add too much water. Now wrap a pinch of dough around a stick, like above, and cook over the fire. When finished, garnish the cooked dough with sprinkle of cinnamon-sugar, and/or honey and jam.

Testimonial
"The Freedom Campfire Ring is great when we have guests over. We light a fire and sit around outside in the evening enjoying the warmth. It works well because it puts out a lot of heat and doesn’t produce a lot of annoying smoke. Of course we take it camping as well."
